Canonical validates Charmed Apache Spark on VMware vSphere Kubernetes Service

Enterprise data teams now have further validations and support around their big data processing workloads deployed using Charmed Apache Spark on VMware vSphere Kubernetes Service (VKS), – the Kubernetes component of VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF).

Today Canonical announced the company has validated  Charmed Apache Spark on VKS, bringing enterprise data teams a better supported, cloud-native data architecture designed for performance and reliability. This follows Canonical and Broadcom’s existing work to create Ubuntu images that run natively on VKS.

Designed to run on Kubernetes with cloud-native portability across public clouds and private data centers, Charmed Apache Spark provides everything users need to deploy, manage, and monitor Spark workloads, including container images, CLI tooling, and automated operations through Juju.

Charmed Apache Spark on VKS simplifies Day-2 operations, such as automated lifecycle management, monitoring, and security patching, allowing data engineers to focus on analytics and machine learning rather than infrastructure.

Key benefits of a data stack that runs Charmed Apache Spark on VKS  include:

  • Automated deployment and scaling: Easily spin up and manage Apache Spark clusters on VKS with declarative tooling and simplified operational workflows.
  • Enterprise-grade security and compliance: Maintain full operational control with continuous security updates, CVE patching, and strict enterprise governance provided by Canonical under a single Ubuntu Pro license.
  • Optimized infrastructure efficiency: Maximize compute resource utilization across private cloud environments using VMware’s robust virtualization, Kubernetes, and AI stacks.
